Waitrose & John Lewis: Give A Little Love
Noella Bamigbola
In a recent ad by a popular UK retailer, John Lewis, and its sister brand, Waitrose, it highlights the importance of kindness and generosity during the holiday season. Compared to the brand’s previous advertisements of telling a single story, they decided to feature an array of different moments in peoples’ lives where kindness could be incorporated.
The advertisement features work from eight different artists and the campaign was able to raise a total of four million pounds for various charities focusing on helping families in need. Any profit driven from the ad was then matched by the John Lewis Foundation. The soundtrack to this particular ad is very fitting given its theme. The song is called “Give A Little Love,” by a famous British singer, Celeste.
The creators of this advertisement had the intention to hopefully uplift and inspire people in the British community to share kindness this Christmas season to people that need it the most.
This ad was successful because it was relevant to the holiday season coming up as well as how people during this time are in need of kindness. They used common daily experiences as moments to demonstrate when we can act with love to one another. This ad appeals to consumers because it illustrates how the world could be a better place, it highlights the ad’s initiative to raise money for those facing food poverty, and provides emotional support for families during the Christmas season.
